07 Feb BBM Structural: Driving Change on the Greens

Education has always been a top priority for the BBM Structural team, so we eagerly traded our design tables for golf clubs at the recent AIA Orlando 35th Annual Golf Tournament. Hosted under the theme “Swinging Through the Years” at the prestigious Eagle Creek Golf Club, this event is dedicated to raising scholarship funds for Orlando’s 2+2+2 Architecture Program.

BBM Associate Nathan Morrow joined Larry Flynn from AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) to form a formidable 4-some, accompanied by Johnnie Lohrum of JL2 Architecture and Cory Byrd of SidePlate. With BBM Principal Kevin Casey leading another strong 4-some, BBM Structural was proudly represented at the tournament, including sponsoring the pre-play breakfast to fuel players for the day ahead.

The AIA Orlando Golf Tournament for Scholarships has a rich history dating back to 1989 when architects came together to create educational opportunities for local students pursuing careers in architecture. Today, the tournament allows architects, design professionals, and industry vendors to come together in friendly competition for a noble cause.

Funds raised from the tournament go directly towards scholarships, covering tuition, living expenses, books, and fees for students facing financial hardships. With over $360,000 raised in its 35-year history, the tournament has significantly impacted the lives of aspiring architects in Central Florida. Orlando’s 2+2+2 Architecture program, offered at institutions like Valencia College, UCF School of Architecture, and UF CityLab-Orlando, provides a comprehensive pathway for students to pursue higher education in architecture right here in our community.

From supporting our children’s formative years to championing projects for university students, BBM Structural remains committed to fostering educational excellence and community development. Events like the AIA Orlando Golf Tournament allow us to give back and invest in the future of our built environment.
