BBM Structural recently joined The Feldman Companies and fellow project partners to celebrate the grand opening of the expanded Extra Space Storage facility in the South Miami area.

Held on October 13, 2026, the ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the completion of a significant expansion, adding approximately 120,000 gross square feet of climate-controlled storage space to serve the surrounding community. Representing BBM at the event were Troy Cernoch, Director of Technology, and Hank Wilson of the Construction Administration team, who joined project representatives and local officials to celebrate the milestone.

Structural Engineering for Self-Storage Developments

The three-story expansion features concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction, with BBM providing structural engineering services alongside URBN Design, the project’s architect, and DC Construction, the general contractor.

Self-storage facilities present specific structural design considerations, from accommodating multiple levels and storage configurations to balancing building performance with efficient use of space. BBM Structural has extensive experience in the self-storage sector, working with developers, architects, and contractors on facilities utilizing various construction methods, including concrete masonry, conventional steel framing, and tilt-up concrete construction.

This project adds to BBM’s portfolio of Extra Space Storage-branded facilities, reinforcing the firm’s experience in structural engineering for self-storage developments. The expansion reflects BBM’s continued involvement in this sector, providing structural engineering services from design through construction administration.

Celebrating a Project Milestone

The ribbon-cutting ceremony included an official recognition from the Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, congratulating Extra Space Storage on its grand opening. The commemorative certificate was signed and presented by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Commission Chairman Anthony Rodriguez, and Vice Chairman Kionne L. McGhee.

The event brought together representatives from The Feldman Companies, project partners, and community leaders to celebrate the completion of the expansion. BBM congratulates The Feldman Companies, including President Mitch Feldman, Director of Operations Jordan Feldman, and Director of Construction Matt Gold, along with architect Jorge Ovalle of URBN Design and everyone involved in bringing the project to completion.
