01 Oct BBM Celebrates Ribbon Cutting at Mount Sinai Westchester
Mount Sinai Medical Center celebrated the completion of a major phase of its Westchester campus with the ribbon-cutting of its new Freestanding Emergency Department on September 25. BBM Structural Engineers provided structural engineering services for the project, working alongside the project team to help complete the new healthcare facility.
Located at 8200 SW 8th Street in Westchester, the four-story, approximately 112,000-square-foot facility is the first phase of Mount Sinai Medical Center’s larger campus plans. The new center is scheduled to open to patients on October 5, expanding access to 24/7 emergency care for residents of western Miami-Dade County.
The facility will be Mount Sinai’s largest freestanding emergency department and includes 26 emergency exam bays, a Baker Act receiving unit, and advanced imaging capabilities including MRI, CT, and ultrasound. Future phases of the Westchester campus are planned to add inpatient and observation beds, surgical and procedural spaces, and additional specialty care services.

For BBM, the ribbon-cutting marks another important milestone on a project our team has followed closely through design and construction.
The facility uses a tilt-up concrete wall system, with some panels extending as high as five stories to incorporate the rooftop penthouse. BBM worked with the project team to develop structural systems capable of supporting the technical requirements of a healthcare facility while providing flexibility for the campus as it grows.
The project reached its topping out milestone in November 2025. In addition to the traditional final beam, the construction team signed a 245,000-pound concrete wall in recognition of the scale and complexity of the tilt-up construction.
BBM President Bora Erbilen attended the September 25 ribbon-cutting, joining Mount Sinai leadership, project partners and community representatives to mark the completion of this phase.
The ceremony celebrated more than the opening of a new building. The Westchester campus represents a long-term investment in bringing emergency and specialty care closer to the communities Mount Sinai serves.
BBM congratulates Mount Sinai Medical Center and our project partners, including HuntonBrady Architects and Brasfield & Gorrie, on reaching this milestone. We are proud to have contributed our structural engineering expertise to a facility designed to serve South Florida for years to come.
