Location:
Deland, FL
Project Scope:
BBM Structural Engineers provided structural engineering services for the reconstruction of Hulley Tower, a historic landmark located at Stetson University’s campus in DeLand, Florida. Originally constructed in the 1930s, the tower was significantly damaged by hurricanes and dismantled in 2005, leaving only its original stone base.
The project involved the reconstruction of the tower to its original height of 116 feet, requiring careful coordination to integrate modern structural systems while maintaining the historic character of the original design. The work also included incorporation of a new 52-bell carillon, installation of memorial elements, and preservation of the existing mausoleum for former Stetson President Lincoln Hulley and his wife.
Working alongside HuntonBrady Architects and Williams Company, BBM supported the delivery of a structure that balances historical accuracy with current performance standards. The completed tower now anchors a revitalized campus plaza and serves as both a functional and symbolic centerpiece for the university community.
