05 Nov Two Tournaments, One Mission: Supporting Students with Every Swing
Golf outings are always a great time, but when they support the future of education in our local communities, they hold even greater significance. This October, BBM Structural had the pleasure of hitting the green not once, but twice, as part of two long-standing fundraising tournaments hosted by school foundations in Orange County and Lake County.
Fore Our Schools – Orange County Public Schools
On October 17, BBM was a contest hole sponsor at the 25th Annual Fore Our Schools Golf Tournament, presented by SGM Engineering at Omni Resort ChampionsGate. Hosted by the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, this event has raised over $2.9 million in its 25-year history—all to provide students and teachers with the extra support that public funding often doesn’t cover.
BBM’s foursome included Sara Gentry and Dorian Maness from Matern, along with Luis Bedoya and Nate Mittag from our team. Together, they enjoyed a great day on the course while supporting OCPS students and educators. From essential learning tools to enriching classroom experiences, every swing helped contribute to a high-quality education for thousands of students. The day also provided a great chance to connect with fellow industry professionals and district leaders who share our commitment to educational excellence.
The Scott Strong Memorial Tournament – Lake County Schools
Just a week earlier, on October 10, BBM participated in the 22nd Annual Scott Strong Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by the Education Foundation of Lake County at Harbor Hills Golf & Country Club. Representing BBM on the course were Luis Bedoya and his son, Nico, who were joined by Aranya Mom and Alyssa Smullen from our frequent collaborators at DLR Group.
With 31 teams and over $104,000 raised, the event was a huge success. All funds go directly to teachers and students across Lake County, with highlights including a closing lunch hosted by Sheriff Peyton Grinnell and remarks from Superintendent Diane Kornegay. Winning teams even selected schools to receive direct donations—talk about a prize with purpose.
At BBM, we do love a good golf tournament, but what we especially love is when those rounds support the students, teachers, and communities that shape our future. Whether we’re building schools or sponsoring a tee, we’re proud to keep education at the heart of what we do.
