25 Jun Breaking Ground in the Packing District: Structural Solutions for a New Commercial Hub
BBM Structural is proud to mark the start of construction on a new four-story office building in Orlando’s Packing District—an important milestone in a community-focused redevelopment effort and another exciting collaboration with our longtime partners at HuntonBrady Architects.
The 40,000-square-foot project, backed by Dr. Phillips Charities, brings Class-A office space to a corner of the district that’s already home to residential, retail, and community landmarks. But beyond the real estate headlines lies what we at BBM see every day: the essential role of structural engineering in turning architectural vision into lasting, functional spaces.
Smart Design Meets Structural Performance
This project offers a thoughtful mix of materials and design features that reflect the site’s industrial roots while introducing modern, flexible workspaces. Key elements include a red brick and metal façade, electrochromic glass walls that respond to light and weather conditions, and a prominent monument tower for tenant signage.
Bringing these design elements to life required close structural coordination from the start. Our team worked closely with HuntonBrady to ensure that both form and function were considered, from glass wall systems to flexible interior floor plates that can adapt to future tenant needs.
Structural Engineers: Quietly Essential
At a time when commercial construction is evolving, the role of structural engineering remains as vital as ever. Behind every facade, window wall, and roofline is a series of decisions that affect not only safety and durability but also sustainability and long-term performance. Our job is to navigate those decisions with precision, taking into account Florida’s demanding environmental conditions, evolving building codes, and a growing demand for flexibility in workspaces.
Strengthening Communities, One Project at a Time
BBM’s work on this project aligns with our long-standing mission to support the communities we serve by ensuring every structure is thoughtfully engineered from the ground up. In this case, the building’s design includes a full floor dedicated to nonprofits, reinforcing the Packing District’s commitment to inclusivity and opportunity.
Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2026, and we’re excited to see how this new commercial space will serve Orlando’s businesses and nonprofits in the years to come.
As with all great projects, success here stems from collaboration, and we’re proud to continue delivering that with trusted partners like HuntonBrady and Welbro Building Corporation.
