BBM Structural Celebrates the Progress of Two New Fire Stations in Florida

If you’ve ever dreamed of a job where you get to slide down a pole, drive a red truck, and save the day, you’re not alone. Fire stations may be iconic in pop culture, but the real-life work they support is anything but make-believe. At BBM Structural, we’re proud to help bring these vital facilities to life, and we recently celebrated two important construction milestones in the process.

In recent weeks, two BBM-engineered fire stations marked their official topping out. This tradition marks the completion of the building’s structural frame and acknowledges the hard work of the teams that brought it all together.

The first was Fire Station 22 in Palm Coast, a modern, hurricane-hardened facility designed to replace the city’s 1977 station on Colbert Lane. During the topping out ceremony, the final beam was hoisted into place, signed by project team members and community leaders. BBM served as the structural engineer for the project, working closely with Wharton-Smith as the general contractor and Schenkel Shultz Architecture as the design team. The new station is designed for resilience and readiness, supporting the growing community’s needs and its emergency services.

Just down the coast, BBM also celebrated the structural milestone of Fire Station No. 1 in Daytona Beach, where the final steel beam was set during a ceremony hosted by Wharton-Smith. Designed by JL2 Architecture, this 25,000-square-foot, two-story facility will serve as both a fire station and the city’s administrative headquarters. BBM provided full structural engineering services, including tilt-up wall systems and reinforced concrete framing designed to meet the code requirements of an essential facility in a coastal environment.

While topping out marks a visible milestone in construction, it also represents progress toward safer, better-equipped spaces for those who serve our communities every day. Fire stations house trucks and equipment, but more importantly, they serve as a base for first responders who respond to calls in moments of crisis.

BBM is proud to support the growth of these essential services. Every beam we help place is one step closer to giving firefighters the facilities they need to protect, serve, and save lives. We’re grateful to be part of that mission and look forward to the day both stations open their doors to the communities they were built for.
