20 Oct Award-Winning Design at The Villages Charter High School
BBM Structural is proud to congratulate our long-time collaborators at Schenkel Shultz Architecture for receiving national recognition in Learning By Design Magazine’s Fall 2025 Architecture and Interior Design Awards of Excellence. Their design for The Villages Charter High School was named an Outstanding Project, a distinction given to educational environments that demonstrate exceptional design, planning, and a strong alignment with 21st-century learning goals.
The award places the project among a select group of facilities highlighted by the magazine for their innovation, quality, and impact on the student experience.
BBM served as the structural engineer for the new high school campus, which spans more than 400,000 square feet. The design includes six buildings that house administration, media, auditorium, fine arts, cafeteria, classrooms, and a full sports complex with multi-use courts, locker rooms, and ticketing offices. Future development on campus will add an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a football stadium, amenity buildings, and a large central courtyard.
From early coordination through structural design, BBM worked closely with Schenkel Shultz and Wharton-Smith, the project’s general contractor, to ensure the structural systems supported the scale, performance, and educational goals of this state-of-the-art high school. The complexity and size of the campus required careful planning to accommodate a wide variety of uses, from heavy-use athletic areas to performance and academic spaces, all while keeping constructability and long-term durability in focus.
We’ve worked alongside Schenkel Shultz on many projects over the years, and we value the mutual trust and collaboration that comes from those ongoing partnerships. It’s always rewarding to see a shared effort recognized, especially one that will serve thousands of students and families in the years to come.
Congratulations to the entire project team on this national honor. We’re proud to have been part of it and look forward to continuing to build together.
