Location:
Bunnell, FL
Project Scope:
The Flagler County Nexus Center is a newly constructed 23,000-square-foot facility designed to consolidate essential county services into a single, accessible campus hub. BBM Structural provided full structural engineering services for the project, which includes a combination of public library functions, health and human services offices, and flexible community-use spaces.
The building program includes a new home for the Bunnell Library, administrative offices for the Health and Human Services Department, a community meeting room, passport services, and associated support areas. Structural systems were designed to accommodate long-span open areas for flexible space planning while supporting permanent partition zones and service cores.
A notable feature of the facility is the inclusion of a storm shelter area designed to meet ICC 500 requirements for temporary refuge during high-wind and severe weather events. This portion of the structure required reinforced systems to meet uplift resistance, impact protection, and occupancy duration standards, thereby enhancing the facility’s role in community resilience.
The Nexus Center was delivered through a publicly funded effort, with a total construction value of $16 million supported by local funding, impact fees, passport revenue, and state and federal grants. The project responds to a long-standing objective to expand services to Flagler County’s southern and western regions, integrating multiple departments within a centralized, secure, and community-facing facility.
BBM’s work on the Nexus Center reflects our continued support of civic and municipal infrastructure that meets both functional and code-driven performance requirements, while aligning with long-term county planning goals.
