05 Nov Breaking Ground at UNF: Supporting Student Success Through Thoughtful Design
BBM Structural is proud to support the University of North Florida’s newest expansion, the Student Success Center, a facility designed to centralize academic services and enhance the day-to-day experience of UNF students. Groundbreaking for the new center took place this October, with the project set for completion in mid-2027.
The three-story, 60,000-square-foot building will bring together a wide range of essential services, including advising, career planning, tutoring, and help centers—all under one roof. As structural engineers for the project, BBM worked closely with longtime collaborators Schenkel Shultz Architecture to ensure the building’s systems are not only efficient and durable, but also capable of supporting the flexible, high-traffic spaces needed to serve a dynamic campus population.
With a design that balances open lounge and collaboration zones with dedicated study areas and service offices, our team provided structural solutions that accommodate a wide variety of spatial uses—without compromising the visual clarity or flow of the space. The structure also needed to respond to the site’s location at the western edge of campus, integrating seamlessly with the Carpenter Library and surrounding facilities, while supporting the modern stone exterior that has become a signature of UNF’s architectural language.
BBM is honored to continue our work in the education sector, helping institutions like UNF shape learning environments that are as strong as they are supportive. We’re especially grateful for the opportunity to once again partner with Schenkel Shultz and to support a university focused on creating meaningful, student-centered spaces.
