Marking a Milestone: Last Beam Goes Up at Florida State Emergency Operations Center

BBM Structural is proud to announce the successful topping out of the new Florida State Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The ceremony in Tallahassee, FL, marked a significant milestone in the construction of this critical facility.

The $180 million project is being built on 40 acres of scrubland across the highway of the current facility on the west side of Capital Circle East near Tram Road. Once the project is completed, the corner of the intersection of Shumard Blvd and Capital Circle East will be filled with the Department of Revenue’s (DOR) office complex on the northwest corner, the state’s Southwood office campus on the north and east corners, and the new operations center across Shumard from DOR at the southwest corner.

This prominent location underscores the project’s importance to the state. The new EOC will provide state emergency responders with significantly enhanced capabilities. One feature is increased space, allowing for improved coordination and response efforts during emergencies. Advanced technology is another highlight of the project. The EOC will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, enabling faster response times and more efficient communication. Enhanced security is a must for this vital community service. The facility is designed to withstand the impact of a Category 5 hurricane, ensuring the safety and continuity of operations during severe weather events.

The new EOC will be a cornerstone of Florida’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities, serving as a vital hub for coordinating disaster relief efforts across the state.

For our BBM Structural team, it has been great working with Architects Clemons Rutherford and Contractors Perry McCall Construction. Joining them for topping-out ceremonies is more than just a celebration; they are a tangible reminder of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the project. It’s an opportunity to step back and admire the structure taking shape, a testament to the strength and ingenuity of its design, engineering, and construction.

We look forward to seeing this project complete and serving the state’s needs through the special services this structure will provide.
