Okeechobee County, FL Sheriff’s Department Jail Renovation & Expansion

Location:

Okeechobee County, FL

Project Scope:

BBM Structural provided engineering services for Securitecture’s substantial renovation and expansion of the Okeechobee County Jail. This comprehensive project encompassed approximately 92,000 square feet of new construction, including two new housing pods capable of accommodating 424 inmates, as well as 135,000 square feet of renovations to the existing facility. The expanded jail, totaling 181,411 square feet, doubled the bed count from 231 to 492 without increasing staff requirements. To achieve cost-effective construction while adhering to stringent hurricane code standards, the project leveraged innovative modular and industrial building methods. Securitecture’s design holistically addresses the county’s correctional needs for the next two to four decades, enhancing all facility areas and preserving future expansion potential. The project, representing an investment of over $70 million, including soft costs, signifies a significant upgrade to the county’s correctional infrastructure.
